I remember when my daughters, who are just 16 months apart in age, were infants and toddlers. Getting out of the house--even to run the most simplistic errand--was a feat! Car seats, diaper bag, lunch/snacks, sippy cups, change of clothes, double stroller, and my purse all in tow, sweat dripping down my brow as we attempted to head out the door. It was a lot to carry. But overtime, I developed such an efficient system that when people offered to help carry a bag or push the stroller, my response would be, "I'm good!" or "Thanks, but I've got it." Even though I knew the help would help--pride and "Mommy World" kept me from accepting or receiving help.
Can you relate?
If so, can you relate as a citizen of the Kingdom of God? Each day God offers to carry our burdens--the cares of life that slow us and weigh us down. Inner turmoil (stress, worry, fear, guilt, shame, anger, anxiety, etc.) family concerns, marital issues, finances, work place environments, etc. God wants to relieve us of all of that. It is a standing offer each day we live.
Can you envision the relief that comes when you put down something that is physically heavy? Now, transfer that feeling of relief to your soul. That is what happens when we take God up on his offer.
What are you needlessly carrying today? Turn it over to the Father and find rest and relief for your soul.
Prayer:
Father, in the name of Jesus, we bless you and thank you for your word in Psalm 68:19. What an assurance to know that you are wholly committed to the health and well-being of our souls! Thank you for being our salvation and the One who bears our burdens. We give them to you now. We thank you that as we give our burdens to you, you are bringing peace and rest to our souls. Thank you for wisdom, guidance, and solutions to any challenges that we may be facing.
Father, we especially commit this prayer to men carrying burdens germane to their roles as husbands, fathers, providers, leaders, employers, etc. We are reminded that Psalm 68 was written by a man, David. Cause men to yield to and receive your help daily. We pray that you would preserve their hearts, their minds, and their bodies. Strengthen them with truth of your word. Send tokens of encouragement that will minister to them we pray in Jesus' name. Amen, and so be it according to the Word of God!
