"A Comeback Kid"
Sermon by Rev. Harrod Emmanuel Clay, Jr.
Psalm 16 is a Messianic Psalm, in which we find David reflecting upon his own life. Though he faced many challenges, some life-threatening, he decided to be a "comeback kid". How about you? It may seem like you are finished, but God says, "I'm just getting started." David resolved that his hope (security; safety) was in the LORD. Like David we can rest in the hope and security God provides even when we are under fire and facing impossible circumstances. What we thought would be our undoing, will actually make us stronger.
Decide on a comeback. Be a comeback kid! Nobody has to be happy about your comeback but you! Celebrate what God has done for you! Even David's father, Jesse, did not believe he was king material. As a result, he was not initially invited to the family dinner with the prophet, Samuel (I Samuel 16). Like Jesse, we judge by what we see but, God determines who is king or queen material.
Do you have hope? Have you been through enough hell to know that situationally it may not be looking good now, but it is not over? Take the last situation that you came through and apply it to what you are facing now. If we stand long enough, we will see victory.
Asking ourselves the right questions during times of crises or struggle is critical because we can talk ourselves in our out of a thing. Purpose to not work against yourself by asking the wrong questions or making the wrong statements. Resolve that you will not be moved. Remember who is before us, and because of that our hearts are glad (Psalm 16:9).
