"Apprehended!"
Sermon by Rev. Harrod E. Clay, Jr., Pastor
We as born-again believers must begin to realize and believe that we really are God's choice! Man can never deny the choice God has made in choosing us. Consider Samuel visiting Jesse and his sons. (I Samuel 16:1-13). Jesse had paraded all of his sons before the prophet, Samuel, who was looking to anoint the next king of Israel. Jesse proudly displayed his strong and mighty sons who were soldiers in King Saul's army. Even Samuel thought to himself when he looked at Eliab, "Surely the Lord's anointed is before Him!" But the Lord spoke to Samuel and instructed him not to look at the outward appearance as men do, but to look at the heart as the He does. Samuel then asked if Jesse had anymore sons. He advised Jesse to get David, because they would not sit down until he arrived. When Samuel saw David, he knew he was the one! Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David right there. Even in front of his brothers!
We need to know that the oil of the Lord will not flow until the right person is in place. You are that person! You are God's choice. He made no mistake when he chose you. Believe it or not, you have been apprehended! Judges 6, details the call of Gideon. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he was hiding from the Midianites--threshing wheat by the winepress. Gideon found it hard to believe that God called him to greatness. Gideon was careful to point out that his family was poor and he was least in his father's house. Yet God called him a "mighty man of valor". You, like Gideon, are God's choice. You have been identified as the Lord's chosen vessel. Part with the familiar. Get positioned for something unplanned. Get ready. Take the initial step and respond to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. What is your dream? What is your vision? What are you passionate about? Is it to go to college? Start a business? Go on the missions field? Begin to see yourself walking out that God-given dream.
