"I Am God's Masterpiece"
Sermon by Rev. Harrod Emmanuel Clay, Jr.
Jeremiah 1
Background of the text:
Jeremiah was a prophet of God who had a tremendous assignment that was given to him in his youth. As God's spokesman, he was given the responsibility to speak to the people of Judah to prevent captivity. However, their disobedience, rebellion, and refusal to turn away from wickedness, sin, and idolatry made captivity imminent.
"For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee." (Jeremiah 1:18-19)
Scripture tells us that many opposed the prophet Jeremiah:
1. the land
2. the kings of Judah (men of Covenant)
3. the princes (leaders)
4. the priests (spiritual leaders)
5. the people of the land
Although many fought against the prophet, he could not be defeated because God made him (Jeremiah 1:5). Like Jeremiah, we are well made; we are God's masterpieces. And, as God was with Jeremiah, he is with us! We are a defensed city. No matter how we are "attacked" (spiritually, financially, relationally, emotionally, etc.) , we CANNOT be penetrated. Why? Because we have the promise of his presence, his power, and his plan. In his eternal plan for our lives, He gives every believer:
1. a dream
2. a vision
3. gifts
4. talents
5. personality
God does this before we are even conceived! His plan for our lives is done in our "past-past". The word tell us that before we were conceived God "knew" us.
