Perhaps you know the scripture or have heard, and perhaps sing along with the song that declares the greatness of our God. But, have you considered or meditated on the vastness of this truth? In Psalm 77:13, the Hebrew word for "great" is gadowl (H1419)*, meaning large in magnitude and intent; great in intensity, distinguished, exceeding, mighty, great in strength and action. The greatness of God is beyond scope of human comparison or characterization; our savviest, most clever attempts to detail, define, or describe the greatness God will always fall short of coming close to the purest expression of who He is. God's word is the only source of which we can rely.
So, how great is our God?
…So great, he parted the Red Sea and the Israelites walked across on dry ground (Exodus 14)
…So great, he gives us his joy to strengthen us when we feel weak and weary (Nehemiah 8:10)
…So great that he guides us into all truth. Therefore, we walk in freedom from any lies or false beliefs (John 16:13)
…So great that he sent his only Son, Jesus, to the cross to die for our sins that we might live (John 3:16)
…So great that he does not leave us comfortless, in a state of distress and woe. We have been blessed with the comforting ministry of his Holy Spirit (John 14:26)
…So great that he gave us His word, which is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our paths. Therefore, we do not have to walk in darkness or deception. (Psalm 119:105)
…So great that he gives us his grace that is made perfect in our human weakness. Therefore we have what we need to get through trials, tribulations, shortcomings, shame, bitterness, anger, sorrow (2 Corinthians 12:9)
…So great that he takes us from glory to glory, gradually transforming us into his image and likeness (2Corinthians 3:18)
Truly, God is great!
