One of the tricks the enemy uses to prevent us from moving forward into our destiny is the use of distractions--smoke screens, diversions, or the Red Herring.
"The source of the term “Red Herring” has been attributed to a technique of training hunting dogs in how to follow the scent of a fox during a hunt. Once the hunting dogs have found the scent of a fox, nothing will deter them from their path except for a more powerful scent. In this case, the more powerful scent comes from a smoked red herring. When this type of distraction is at play, it keeps us from pursuing the real issue at hand because our focus/attention has been diverted. We have been skillfully misled.
The enemy never wants the people of God to walk in complete liberty and freedom. He hates the idea of us pursuing God, receiving God's love, and moving to a place of wholeness and healing. When he senses you are on the verge of victory, he will throw a red herring and cause you to lose focus on the real issue. Don't fall for it! Yes, the enemy is very subtle, crafty, and tricky. And no, he does not play fair, but he is no match for the omniscient (all-knowing, infinite understanding, and supreme insight) power of God!
Ask the Lord for wisdom to discern and detect when a red herring has been hurled in your direction. Ask God to open your eyes spiritually to the deception and tricks of the enemy.
