Studies show that the average person has 50,000-70,000 thoughts per day, and
70-80% of them are negative! Yikes! Studies also show that prolonged negative thinking alters brain chemistry, meaning that when we think negative, pessimistic thoughts for an extended period of time our brain chemistry becomes imbalanced.
Every thought we think directly influences the chemistry of the brain. This is significant because thoughts (negative or positive) determine our outlook on life. What we do, what we say, how we relate to others--all of them have their genesis in a thought. Attitudes, mindsets, choices, decisions, actions, and behavior all begin with a thought. If we our bent is towards prolonged and extended negative thinking, it will become pervasive and reflected in every aspect of our lives.
Good news! We do not have to live in negativity. Brain chemistry can be brought back to balance simply by applying the word of God in our lives. In many forums it may be referred to as "the power of positive thinking" or "positive self-talk"; but ultimately it's activating the spiritual discipline of Philippians 4:8. If you struggle with pessimism, catastrophic thinking, fear, depression, and/or anxiety begin to decree the word of God over your life. Watch your thinking change from negative to positive!
Decrees to Overcome Negative Thinking
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Nothing is impossible or too hard for me to do because I have the power and the Spirit of Christ in me.
(Psalm 139:14)
I am righteous and bold as a lion. I do not walk in fear, but in courage and tenacity. (Proverbs 28:1)
My heart is sound and merry. (Proverbs 15)
The joy of the Lord is my strength. I am happy and full of joy. (Nehemiah 8:10)
God knows the thoughts that he has for me. They are thoughts of peace to give me a future and a hope. My future is bright. My destiny is great because God has a purpose and a plan for my life. (Jeremiah 28:11)
In Jesus' name, Amen and so be according to the word of God!
