"For God has unveiled them and revealed them to us through the [Holy] Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things [diligently], even [sounding and measuring] the [profound] depths of God [the divine counsels and things far beyond human understanding]."
-- I Corinthians 2:10(AMP)
Can you recall, as a child, making up your own "club"? A friend of mine with two young daughters, shared that her girls had started a "Detectives Club" whereby they create mysteries to solve. Through the eyes of a child, this club is a pretty big deal. Of course it is all in childhood fun, creativity, and imagination--but at the heart of the matter is the desire to relate and connect with others.
We, as human beings, were created for relationship. God clearly states in Genesis 2:18 that it was not good for Adam to be alone. Hence, the creation of Eve and the beginning of human relationship.
"And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."--Genesis 2:18 (KJV)
There is an inherent desire within each human soul to love, be loved, and not be alone or exist in isolation. We long for connection, relationship, and acceptance. Clubs, fraternities, sororities, organizations, social media groups, etc. are designed to build relationships, promote belonging, and cultivate a sense of community within the respective group.
This pursuit of relationship begins very early in life. Recently, one of my daughters talked to me about her "friend detector". I was intrigued and wanted to learn more. I asked her to explain the friend detector. In her uncommon youthful wisdom, she explained that the friend detector enables you to choose your friends wisely by observing and listening to prospective friends carefully. She was referring to the Holy Spirit. Inwardly, I chuckled at the notion of a "friend detector". (A child's imagination can be so fascinating!) Outwardly, I smiled and celebrated the work of the Holy Spirit in her young heart. She is developing an ability to rely upon the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit in establishing healthy, respectful, and mutually satisfying relationships.
If you, as an adult, find yourself in a repetitive cycle of toxic relationships or perhaps you struggle with social awkwardness and find it difficult to establish or maintain relationships--I have good news for you today! You are equipped with the "Friend Detector". As a believer in Yeshua, you are indwelled with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God is our relational teacher, helper, and guide. He enables us to cultivate and build relationships as God originally intended to satisfy the longings of the soul.
