Studies show that between $40-50 billion dollars a year are spent on weight loss. Approximately $30 billion dollars are spent on athletic apparel alone, $2.4 billion on gym memberships, and an estimated $1.5 billion in dietary supplements. No doubt a lot of time and money is spent on physical health. But, how much time do we devote to the health and well-being of our souls?
The Bible clearly states in 3 John 1:2, that God is as concerned about our spiritual health as he is about our physical health. He desires that our souls be well. The health of our souls directly impacts the health of our bodies. Research reveals that numerous physical maladies are a result of the state of our souls--high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, heart disease, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, and obesity--just to name a few.
Mental health and wholeness is holistically important. Our mental health effects every area of our lives. If things are not well with our soul, things are not well in our lives. If you have a mental health question or concern for yourself or someone you know, I encourage you to tune in to the radio broadcast of Dr. Chalice Jenkins: "Let's Talk with Dr. Chalice!"
